Empowering Hong Kong's Youth: Corporate Volunteering Meets Career Exploration

At The Inclusive Company, we recently orchestrated a Career Exploration Day in collaboration with Langham Hospitality Group and Social Career as part of Corporate Volunteer Week. This transformative event connected senior students from SKH All Saints' Middle School with the world of luxury hospitality, facilitated by St. James' Settlement's invaluable assistance.

  1. Corporate Volunteering: Bridging Education and Industry

In the heart of Hong Kong's vibrant business district, a novel approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is flourishing. The Inclusive Company, alongside our partners, is spearheading this movement, forging meaningful connections between corporations and students to create lasting impact. Langham Hospitality Group's enthusiastic participation exemplifies this commitment to nurturing future talent.

When asked about their motivation to join this Career Exploration Day, Langham Hospitality Group shared:

"Langham Hospitality Group is committed to making a positive impact on the communities where we operate. Through partnerships and active participation in various community activities, we aim to serve and gain a deeper understanding of society's diverse needs, helping to build and benefit our communities for their prosperity.

Children and youth have always been a focus of our community investment. We understand that exploring career paths can be confusing, and the Career Exploration Activity during Corporate Volunteer Week allows young people to observe the actual work situations in various industries first-hand. This helps them understand and plan their career directions while providing a platform for dialogue between businesses and young people. This aligns perfectly with our group's sustainable development philosophy."

  1. CEO's Journey: From Kitchen to Boardroom

Mr. Bob van den Oord, CEO of Langham Hospitality Group, kicked off the event with his inspiring journey. His tale, from assisting in his mother's kitchen to leading a global hospitality brand, resonated profoundly with the students. He encouraged them with a powerful message: "I want you to dream big, and I want you to have fun in whatever you do, whatever it is. Because if you enjoy what you're doing, you can achieve anything."

  1. Exploring the Real World of Hospitality

Students were immersed in various aspects of the hospitality industry:

  1. Brand Insights: Learning about Langham Hospitality Group's rich history and global footprint.

  2. Behind-the-Scenes Tour: Experiencing the professional atmosphere of a corporate office.

  3. Interactive Discussions: Engaging with professionals from different departments.

  1. Student Perspectives: Eye-Opening Experiences

Mr.Lai (Right) , a participating student, shared, "I never realized how complex hotel operations could be. It's helped me understand if this is the industry for me."

Miss Lee (Left) added, "I've learned that IT isn't just about backend systems, and HR does more than recruitment. While these roles might not be my first choice, I now know I need to improve my English to succeed in this global industry."

  1. Building Bridges for a Brighter Future

At The Inclusive Company, we're dedicated to creating these transformative experiences. Our CEO, Matthew Tam, emphasises, "These initiatives are crucial in bridging the gap between education and industry. They provide students with invaluable insights while allowing companies to contribute meaningfully to youth development in Hong Kong."
